by Claudine Kurp A truly magical thing has happened. I recently had an event that I really wanted to attend. It was a book signing in DC. Since I had to decided to go at the last minute, I struggled to think of a friend who could get out on Friday night at a moments notice. Bingo! I thought of the perfect person! My 9-year-old daughter would love to go with me. We have been moving at the speed of light with school, homework and soccer. I decided that we both needed to be rewarded with a night out! I jumped onto OpenTable and booked a table for two at Cafe Milano. We made our way into the city, parked up and enjoyed a wonderful meal.

by Claudine Kurp I fell madly in love with Minted.com a few years ago. After seeing the beautiful designs on Minted and the thick, rich paper stock, I was hooked. This is my 4th year of full devotion to Minted.com for my holiday cards. This year I reached out (stalked) to Minted. The folks at Minted were wonderful and when I told them that I wanted to do a blog on www.GoKidTrips.com, they offered one lucky reader a $250.00 credit! What the what!!! I am so jealous. In addition to my great love of Minted cards, I also have a serious crush on the new line of Minted artwork. California Dreaming hangs in my family room and often grabs the attention of my guests. Get ready for mistletoe, merriment and memories. The holiday season is fast approaching and what better place to celebrate the season then the DC Metro area. Smithsonian National Zoological Park by Claudine Kurp Fresh from last night's performance of Disney On Ice Presents Frozen, I am here to tell you that this is, in my opinion, the BEST Disney On Ice show that I have ever seen. I have been very fortunate to have seen 7 Disney On Ice performances over the years. The shows were always a special mother/daughter outing and one that called for tiaras and Disney costumes.
My daughter is now 9-years-old and I wasn't quite sure if she would still have the same excitement for this type of show. Was she too old? Well...no worries. Not only did my 9-year-old LOVE the show, but her friend also joined in on the fun. With multicolored Frozen wands waving and bags full of cotton candy, both girls sang and danced the night away. There were moments when the girls were so entranced that I could not even get their attention for a picture. I must admit, I sang every song as well. It was such a fun show! The costumes were Broadway caliber and the performers did a wonderful job. Thanks to some amazing special effects, a light snow and a winter wonderland enveloped the Patriot Center and created an ethereal canvas for "Let It Go" and the final scene where Anna shows us all the meaning of true love. As we were leaving the show, my daughter turned to me and said "Mom that was the best Disney On Ice show that we have seen." Indeed! I have listed the dates below. I would highly recommend the show for young and adult! by Claudine Kurp If you haven't made it out to this awesome festival in the past, be sure and mark your calendar. Kids Euro Festival is a two week long festival of European arts and culture that presents more than 80 free activities to metro-area families. The festival events include performances, concerts, workshops, movies, storytelling, puppetry, dance, magic and cinema. The event is designed for children aged two through twelve and their families. The festival, now in its seventh year, unites the 28 embassies of the European Union (EU) and over 20 American cultural institutions. All of the embassies and organizations work together to transform the capital region into a Europe-inspired action-packed cultural adventure for young people and their families, with no passport required. By Claudine Kurp For 42 years Cox Farms has hosted one of the biggest Fall Festivals in the DC Metro area. It is 120 acres of pure family fun! Check out this awesome annual festival that offers up hayrides, pumpkin tosses, kid friendly farm animals, kettle corn, apple cider, live entertainment, slides and a petting zoo. Pick a beautiful day and head to Centreville, VA. by Claudine Kurp For years I have heard about the benefits of Girls on the Run. My daughter is finally eligible to join, but before signing up I did some research to find out more about the program. I was excited to find out that Girls on the Run goes far beyond a youth running club. First and foremost, I wanted my daughter to embrace physical activity. It will serve her well in life. Not only will it make her healthier in the short-term, but also hopefully it will create a healthy habit that will stay with her through adulthood. Running for me has always been about more than exercise. In my 20s and 30s I also experienced the therapeutic aspect of exercise. Nothing seems quite as bad after a good run or workout. In addition, with the pressures on today's youth, children need a vehicle to unleash their energy, angst and frustrations. There is also no doubt that exercise can empower the bodies and minds of our little girls and future leaders. by Claudine Kurp UPDATE SEPTEMBER 30, 2014: Thank you to all who entered the Disney On Ice Presents Frozen contest. Congratulations to Chelsea from Centreville, VA. It is here! Disney On Ice presents Frozen at the Patriot Center from October 22 - 27, 2014. My daughter literally screamed with delight when she heard that the show was coming to town. PLUS WE HAVE A GIVEAWAY FOR A FAMILY 4 PACK, MONDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2014! by Claudine Kurp Another birthday party is in the books. We just celebrated my daughter’s 9th birthday at Rebounderz Sterling Indoor Trampoline Arena. For this review I decided to keep it to just the facts with some pictures to show the wonderful offering at Rebounderz of Sterling. In addition to my review, I also asked my daughter to give her unbiased opinion of Rebounderz of Sterling.
By Claudine Kurp If you find yourself with some time this weekend, I highly recommend the Ekster Antiques Barn Sale. Caroline does a wonderful job of bringing eclectic finds from near and far. Her trips to Europe yield a bounty for locals in the mood to shop or just browse for furniture, lighting and one-of-kind outdoor elements.
