FREE "Pirate Family Festival" at the National Geographic Museum

Ahoy Mateys!  This Saturday, June 22, the National Geographic Museum will host its first free Pirate Family Festival starting at 10 am featuring lots of pirate-themed activities. While you are at the museum, be sure to check out the incredible Real Pirates: The Untold Story of the Whydah from Slave Ship to Pirate Ship exhibit.  We went over the winter and were thoroughly impressed with huge size of the exhibit, impressive design (you really feel like you are on a ship!,) artifacts, and details.  It's a must for every pirate lover in the DC area!

The Pirate Family Festival starts at 10am and includes pirate-themed fun such as:

• Pistol duels and cannon fire, as well as a lesson on emergency amputations with The Valhallas Pirates, a group of modern day pirates
  
• Sword-fighting and sea shanties with the Shadow Players
  
• Captain Flint along & his pirate puppet crew will provide storytime and songs with performances by Cliff Long
  
• Falconry demonstrations based on their use during the golden age of piracy with the Earth Conservation Corps
  
• Live maritime, nautical, and Celtic music with House of Cadarn
  
• Lesson in what it takes to survive as a modern pirate from the Moody Crewe
  
• Create a stomp cannon, test ship technology like ropes and pulleys, and design your own ship sail with Ideaventions
• Walk the plank with KEVA planks
• Make a maritime map and a sailor valentine to send abroad with the US Navy Museum
• Learn about the Whydah’s roots in the slave trade with the Pearl Coalition
• Face Painting
• Pirate Dress Up
• Spyglass Making
• Pirate Games
• Knot Tying
