For those of you who have traveled with a toddler or young child, you will note, that it is typically an opportunity that you DON'T relish. I have had a number of friends, myself included, who have acknowledged that this wasn't their finest parenting moment. We all know how we USED to feel about passenger with unruly kids when we flew back in the day child-free, without a care in the world except to bring the appropriate reading materials on board. Well, you are officially that person, a parent flying with a child. Yikes! Kid Trips is here to help.
Here are some fabulous recommendations that were sent in by Amanda from Vienna, VA. I wish I had met her sooner! by Angela Pounders Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Washington D.C. is far from your typical museum. It is an interactive, hands-on attraction that brings historical as well as popular figures and events to life through life-like wax figures that visitors can touch, see and even hear. There is something for the entire family to enjoy and this summer, the museum is offering something special. Our friends at the Toy Corner in Oakton, Virginia just gave us their "Insider's List" of top picks for summer fun. The list has something for every age group from young to adult. So whether you need to fill up your backyard with something fun for the long summer days or if you need the perfect hostess picnic gift or birthday gift, we have some great options for you! We're partnering with one of our favorites, Washington Family Magazine, to give one lucky reader a pack of 4 tickets to the Golden Dragon Acrobats from China show at the Filene Center, Wolf Trap on Sunday, July 7th at 2pm. Tickets are for the Rear Orchestra section and are valued at $30 a piece. by Claudine I was recently given an opportunity to enjoy a weekend at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. I am beyond excited to share the details of my stay at this gorgeous property. Full disclosure, from the first time I noticed this striking structure of glass and steel as I crossed the Potomac, I was smitten. During my first trip to the National Harbor in 2009, it was evident that the star of the show was the Gaylord National Resort. Now 2013, I was elated to return to the Gaylord National Resort as a hotel guest.

Ahoy Mateys! This Saturday, June 22, the National Geographic Museum will host its first free Pirate Family Festival starting at 10 am featuring lots of pirate-themed activities. While you are at the museum, be sure to check out the incredible Real Pirates: The Untold Story of the Whydah from Slave Ship to Pirate Ship exhibit. We went over the winter and were thoroughly impressed with huge size of the exhibit, impressive design (you really feel like you are on a ship!,) artifacts, and details. It's a must for every pirate lover in the DC area! by Micaela Friday, June 21 is National Summer Learning Day, an advocacy day recognized to spread awareness about the importance of summer learning.
