by MicaelaThe DC area is full of transplants living far away from their families, and we’re no different. Even though we’ve been here for over a decade, we rarely get a night away and were blessed to have the experience to spend a date night by staying overnight at the Ritz- Carlton, Tysons Corner. Located in the bustling Tysons Corner area, The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner is a true retreat away. The hotel offers unparalleled service, and every single staff member pays attention to the finest details. We received a hand-written note from the manager, a lovely wine and cheese delivery to our room, and the team continuously went out of their way to make sure we were having the time of our lives. I have two words for you…CLUB LOUNGE. Guests can put their room key in the elevator and be whisked away to a land of complimentary and delicious free food and drinks on the 24th floor. Since we are tired parents, we started off with some gourmet coffee drinks and then moved onto appetizers and wine. The Club Lounge attendants truly went out of their way to bring luxury and kind smile to everyone. While I noshed and gazed at the crowded Beltway off in the distance, I felt a sense of peace and gladness to be removed from the normal DC madness. The Club Lounge is also open for after dinner desserts and breakfast. We love to eat and the Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner's posh, on-site restaurant ENTYSE did not disappoint. While I was lucky enough to receive a personal wine recommendation of Lovingston wine from the VA Wine Time that night, the staff at ENTYSE is happy to offer suggestions, and the menu offers an extensive list of local and international wines, spirits, and cocktails. Since I’m from Long Island and my husband is from New England, we love our seafood and started our meal with the Oysters and Tuna Tartare small plates. For those with different tastes, the appetizer menu boasts artisan cheese plates, specially crafted salads, sliders, dips, and more. The main meal and dessert was also incredible, and we celebrated with succulent filet mignon and a luscious, warm chocolate cake. After the meal, we retreated to the bar where I discovered my new favorite drink in all of Northern Virginia…the Organic Martini. We enjoyed listening to live jazz entertainment and engaging in rare adult-only conversation. (Our kids are ridiculously chatty, and it’s rare to get a word in when they’re around!) Our blissful experience at the Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner was second to none. We hope to return for another overnight one day to take advantage of their spa services, fitness center and swim in their beautiful pool.
Locals will love to check out all the fun events planned at the hotel for families and adults alike. These experiences make great, memorable presents for the upcoming holiday season and are a great alternative another gift card or toy. Some favorites include the weekly Peter Rabbit Teas for Children, Wine’d Down Wednesdays, Sushi Thursdays, and special themed-holiday events. I am especially excited to check out the unveiling of the Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner’s life-sized Gingerbread House which is a “culinary work of art is large enough for guests to walk around inside and explore the sugary construction created by the talented Pastry Team.” The house will be on display on the third floor from November 29, 2013 through January 2, 2014. There are also special overnight and day packages ranging from romantic getaways, spa experiences, and fun, family escapes. Find out more on the official the Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner website and discover true luxury for yourself. I was invited to participate in the Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner Stay, Play, and Write campaign and received a complimentary overnight stay with a free dinner in exchange for writing this article.
