With a hit movie and hundreds of toys, the popularity of LEGO has never been greater, and my family was lucky enough to visit LEGOLAND California back in early 2013.  LEGOLAND California has more than 60 rides and is filled with shows and attractions.  Here are some things to know before you go:

  • LEGOLAND California is open daily during spring break, summer and select holiday periods. However, the park is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays during select seasons. The LEGOLAND Waterpark is open on a seasonal basis and the Sea Life Aquarium is open daily.

  • Many of the rides have height requirements, even the mild ones.  The staff is very strict about sticking to these requirements.  Due to this, the best ages for LEGOLAND are ages 4-10, but kids slightly older and younger will still have a great time.

  • There are MANY different options for tickets and a quick google search will yield many coupon options.  We found a coupon in a magazine.  Do not pay full price!  Besides the LEGOLAND theme park, there are ticket options to include the LEGOLAND Waterpark (seasonal) and the Sea Life Aquarium (year round.) Read about the options here.  We recommend a separate day for the waterpark.  It is too much to visit theme park and water park on the same day.

  • Be sure to spend some time walking around the awe-inspiring Miniland USA. There are huge replicas of New York, Washington DC, Boston, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Southern California, San Francisco, as well as Star Wars, famous Americans and more. Be sure to take the narrated Coastal Cruise.

  • RIDES: From the mild to the wild, there are rides to please everyone.  The Official LEGOLAND California website hosts an interactive map, hundreds of pictures, and breaks down the rides by height/weight requirements.

  • SHOWS: New this year is the twelve minute, Legends of Chima 4-D Movie Experience. Other shows include the action packed LEGO Clutch Powers 4-D and the live action stunt show The Big Test. See more info about the shows and events, including trailers and images,  here.

  • For those looking to spend multiple days at the attractions, The LEGOLAND California Resort hotel is now open with themed pirate, kingdom, and adventure rooms and suites. For a hotel overview, pictures, and rates, visit http://california.legoland.com/en/LEGOLAND-Hotel1/

  • New this year is THE LEGO® MOVIE EXPERIENCE.  This offers visitors a chance to see the real movie set, soundstage, view actual movie footage, and explore the models.

  • Theme parks can be exhausting so be sure to take a break!  There are opportunities for adults to chill and for kids to build and play. Check out Fun Town, a town/playground area made out of LEGO bricks for kids to climb and explore or DUPLO Playtown and DUPLO Play for the younger set.

  • In Summer 2014, LEGOLAND Waterpark is launching a brand new section based on the LEGO Legends of Chima. This will add an interactive wave pool (Lion Temple Wave Pool,) hands-on water play area (Cragger's Swamp,) boat building and launching station (Eglor's Build a Boat,) and more to the already attraction-filled LEGOLAND Waterpark.
