by Claudine If you followed me from DC Metro Mom then you know I am a design JUNKIE! I sift through no less than 10 design blogs a day, I subscribe to 5 monthly shelter magazines and I am up to 8,600 pins on Pinterest. Addiction is an understatement! Design is my passion and in my next life I plan on ditching the safe route of Corporate America and becoming an interior designer. Dare to dream, dare to dream. In my pursuit of all things design I have stumbled onto a number of local treasures both in the blog world and as well as local vendors with brick and mortar sites. One of my favorite destinations is the Ekster Antiques Barn Sale. The owner of Ekster Antiques & Uniques is Caroline Verschoor. I interviewed her a few years back after finding her enchanting tent at the Lucketts Fair. She has an incredible story. Here is the link to my interview with her. LINK Well it is that time again and Caroline will be hosting a sale at her home in Hamilton, VA. It is a bit of a ride that takes you just past Leesburg, VA. In a perfect world I would recommend heading off with friends (plan now) to this beautiful country setting. There are vineyards and restaurants nearby if you go the adult route. You can also take your family but you will probably not be able to properly linger. If you opt to go to the sale with kids, I would highly recommend going through Kids Trips Northern Virginia for recommendations for nearby parks and museums (yes…I inserted a shameless plug). The next sale dates are June 21st – 23rd. If you miss those dates just check back for her next sale. Caroline runs her barn sales every few months. Her wares are primarily procured in Europe. Price points vary from high to low. Patrons can usually find a nice deal on some one-of-kind items. One note, Caroline has a LOYAL following that typically line up at the opening of each sale day. Many pieces go quickly. You can visit her website and Facebook page for a sampling of sale items. If you were looking for additional design inspiration, I would recommend the attached local design blogs. They have a lovely design aesthetic that lends itself to the area. They also have a habit of mentioning local shops as well as region appropriate landscaping ideas. For more information about the Ekster Antique Barn Sale, visit www.eksterantiques.com/.
